Ultraviolet Disinfection by Newland

UV disinfection is effective at wavelengths from 200 nm to 300 nm. The UVC radiation emitted has a strong bactericidal effect. It is absorbed by the DNA, destroys its structure and inactivates living cells.

Microorganisms such as viruses, bacteria, yeasts and fungi are rendered harmless within seconds by UV radiation.

If the irradiance is high enough, UV disinfection is a reliable and environmentally-friendly method eliminating the need for chemicals. Moreover, the microorganisms cannot become resistant to UV radiation.

What is UV-C?

Ultraviolet (UV) light is a type of radiation that can be found in the electromagnetic spectrum from 200 nm to 400 nm. Invisible to the human eye, UV is an effective disinfectant.

There are three ranges to UV light – UV-A, UV-B, UV-C:

  • UV-A –it has the longest wavelength, ranging between 315nm to 400nm.

  • UV-B – known as the medium wavelength, it ranges between 280nm and 315nm.

  • UV-C – the shortest wavelength, it ranges between 200nm and 280nm.

UV-C is germicidal, meaning it can be used effectively as a disinfectant to kill microorganisms, such as bacteria and viruses.

How does UV disinfection lighting work?

Ultraviolet light kills cells by damaging their DNA. Exposure to the electromagnetic radiation (light) at certain UV wavelengths modifies the genetic material of microorganisms and destroys their ability to reproduce. The UV energy triggers the formation of specific thymine dimers in DNA and uracil dimers in RNA, which cause  s the inactivation of microbes by causing mutations

Newland´s Ultraviolet disinfection Systems uses monochromatic UV lamps to disinfect water by killing bacteria through destruction of nucleic acids and It is absorbed by the DNA, destroys its structure and inactivates living cells.

Newland has a wide range of industrial UV disinfection equipment for open channel applications.

Main characteristics

  • Main characteristics

  • Low pressure amalgam lamps

  • Designed for outdoor installations

  • High modular systems

  •  Controlled by PLC.

  • Dose control system.

  • More than 12.000 hours lamp life

  • Validated systems

NLQ-H Series

NLQ_H series are equipment designed for medium and low flow plants. Their horizontal arrangement makes them very flexible when installing them in new or existing plants.

Its modular construction allows a precise adjustment of the capacity of the system to be installed.

It incorporates a mechanical cleaning system operated by compressed air.

The electrical control panels are made of stainless steel for outdoor mounting and include air conditioning.

The entire UV system is controlled by a PLC and is operated through an HMI in which we can control, among other aspects:

  • Number of hours of operation

  • Number of cycles off and on

  • Defective lamps

  • UV dose

NLQ-V Series

NLQ_V series are equipment designed for medium and high flow plants. Their vertical arrangement makes them very flexible when installing them in new or existing plants.

Its vertical cross flow design allows a great contact of the water to be treated with the ultraviolet light.

Our vertical configuration permits  an ease maintenance since the lamps can be removed without removing the module from the water.

  • Number of times the lamps have been turned off and on

  • Defective lamps

  • UV dose
